What happens if more Botox is needed?
For excessive underarm sweating, BOTOX® is administered to the underarm area in a grid pattern. The injections are not very painful as very small needles are used, and the injections are shallow. At The Lind Institute of Plastic Surgery, our BOTOX® injections are performed with advanced skills and techniques to achieve real-world relief from excessive sweating. The in-office procedure takes about 20 minutes.
After your Botox injections, you may experience some redness and swelling in the underarm area, which will quickly fade. Some bleeding may occur, but this is usually minimal. If bruising appears, it will resolve in a couple of weeks. Strenuous activity should be avoided for the remainder of the day, but you can return to work directly after treatment. You can return to full activities the following day.
Botox is considered a preventative treatment for excessive underarm sweating. Results can last from four to 12 months. Cosmetic Botox injections will need to be repeated as the effect fades. This amount of time will vary from person to person.
If, after 14 days, it becomes apparent that the desired smoothing effect was not achieved, a few more units of BOTOX® will be injected. We will rapidly learn what your body needs to achieve the desired effect. It is always safer to start with a conservative amount of BOTOX® and inject more when needed. BOTOX® can always be added, but once injected, there is no way to reverse the effect other than waiting for it to fade over several months.
